In July 2006, a textile designer and a graphic designer discovered their shared passion for fun, colourful, children’s decor. Fueled by possibility, they quit their reliable day jobs to launch Funteriors. Like many small business, Funteriors had humble beginnings...borrowed desks in Julie’s Mom’s laundry room. Many a day’s business was conducted to the gentle whir of a tumble dryer, while windows steamed up and paperwork wilted in the growing humidity. But, on a wing and a prayer (and a ludicrously small budget), Funteriors began designing and producing children’s decor. Within 6 months, the ladies knew they were onto a potential winner, as more designs became actual products, and customers reacted well to the range. Funteriors quickly outgrew its laundry office, and soon opened a small, colourful showroom in Main Road, Walmer.

In October 2007, Funteriors bravely exhibited at the PE Homemakers Expo. To save costs and maximise exposure, the miniscule handmade stand was meticulously designed to the last square centimetre, but efforts paid off as Funteriors won a Gold award for their stand.

Funteriors sets itself apart with customisation and personalisation of products. All furniture is made to order, and can be re-sized if necessary. Hand-painted letters and artworks are typical of the range, which offers designs for whole bedrooms, or add-ons that will suit a customers’ existing decor. And despite being a children’s range, the magnetic memo boards and wooden letters have found their way into more than one kitchen, bathroom and study.
